This coming Saturday I'll be going to Groesbeek cemetary to pay my respect to all Canadians who will stay in the Netherlands forever. As part of a re-enactment/living history group this will the fourth time that on the day that the Queen's Own Rifles (3rd Canadian Infantry Division) fought very hard near Kalkar and suffered many casualties, that we go and lay flowers on that Canadian cemetary. Later that day we will go to the starting lines of this unit for Operation Blockbuster and follow their route into Mooshof and beyond. At Mooshof one of the members of the QOR was posthumusly awarded a VC, but the plaquette to remind all of this has been removed and flogged by the former occupant of the farm buildings.
My remark was not to smudge the memory of individuals. Maybe it may not politically correct to make such a remark, but then memories and reality can differ enormously.
