Response to 20th century US Presidents...

Interesting post outlining the military service of twentieth century presidents. Here's a list of those who served in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries:

George Washington (Seven Years War and Revolutionary War)
James Monroe (Revolutionary War)
Andrew Jackson (Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Seminole Wars)
William Henry Harrison (Northwest Indian War, Tecumseh's War and War of 1812)
Zachary Taylor (War of 1812, Black Hawk War, Seminole Wars, Mexican-American War)
Franklin Pierce (Mexican American War)
James Buchanan (War of 1812)
Abraham Lincoln (Black Hawk War)
Ulysses Grant (Civil War)
Rutherford Hayes (Civil War)
James Garfield (Civil War)
Chester Arthur (Civil War)
Benjamin Harrison (Civil War)
William McKinley (Civil War -- actually enlisted as a private in the regiment commanded by Rutherford Hayes!!)

...and of course Teddy Roosevelt whose Spanish-American War service needs no elaboration.

Additionally, Jefferson Davis, first and only president of the Confederate States of America, served in the Mexican-American War.
