I've tried to stay out of this whole thing but frankly i found your post very offensive and unnecessarily hostile. I find it extremely ironic that for all the invective you hurl at the collectors on this forum, you are as guilty of sweeping generalizations as the "snobs" you are so enragged with.
"if you "collectors" would be honest with us on the forum and admit that truly, its your collections-at-stake and that deep down ... its about money ... then we would not hold all of you in such contempt."
That's quite the statement you've made there. How do you presume to tell me, or any of the other collectors on this forum for that matter, what my/our motives are for collecting? Such stereotyping only serves to illustrate how ignorant you are of people's true motives. That's just as ignorant as if i were to say that all reenactors are only interested in playing guns, and should join the army if they are really that interested (which i know is not the case).
Indeed, as with ANY form of collecting there is some fundamental monetary element (just like buying antiques; they're old, and they're only getting older), and there are those out there who collect with the future value of the collection in mind. But I know that when I'm busting my ass working extra shifts so thats i can pick up that mint P37 Small pack to finish off my British collection, the farthest thought from my mind is "oh boy, despite the years of hard work and research i put into putting this set together, once i get this piece i can now turn around and resell it for twice what i paid for it!". I collect because i want to hold a piece of history in my hands, and keep it safe. Sure my collection will only appreciate in value through the years, but, baring some unforeseen tragedy in my life, i NEVER plan on selling the items thats i have accumulated. The value increase of these items is the FURTHEST thing from my mind.
So, in the future I would appreciate it if you didn't come in here hurling insults and labelling everyone just because you have a problem with one or two people who post here. I have no problem with reenactors, and have always gotten along fine with the ones I've met, and won't be so presumptuous as to regard all reenactors with contempt, as you profess to do with collectors, simply because of your ignorant remarks.
