Yes, if they had cared and kept better records it certainly would have helped us collectors. However, 60 plus years of people gathering these items should have lead to a pretty good understanding of what was used and by whom. But it hasn't. At least not for certain types of items. I don't disagree with what your saying Mike, but I still think that there is no reason why questions like what basic types of GS shovels were used by the infantry soldier during WW2 isn't common knowledge. There has to have been examples of this stuff in collections long enough for this info to have been passed on by now. Anyway, I hope I have finally made my point as I don't have anything to add.
