Doug, in the case of the jacket I have, it is not really in good enough shape to have been worn much, even in the 1950s. The lining is in very rough shape, and the thread holding the buttons on is fragile. The lining at the bottom of one of the sleeves is in torn and dangling condition. It would have had to be a very slight soldier or bandsman, as this is a jacket that would not have fit me when I joined the cadets at the age of 12 in the early 60s. On the other hand, the wool is in pretty good shape, even though it was dyed.
