..Hi Clive...I,m Glad you mentioned this point...I made some rudimentary investigations a few years back when my father wrote the article on the Kangaroo badges and found that what you're saying is in fact quite correct.I often remind folks that this particular badge has held a high value for some time.I remember buying my first one in 1979 and it costing a hundred bucks back then.It has always commanded a premium even before the 70's,certainly giving those with less than honest motives all the juice they needed to bang them out by the bagfull.I,ve seen the type 2 repros in yellow brass to a reddish guilding colour and Ive seen them re-lugged with Gaunt lugs which were no doubt off an original badge.I,ve seen several polished down artficially to give them a "used" look.Funny that just about all of them showed up at the same time for the same price in the same bags.Hmmm.I,at the time had several people who know more about production than I do ,that the cost is not as much as some folks would think.I know of at least one fellow who relies on the die cost theory to base his own beliefs on the type 2 badge.Sorry,but thats just more speculation. |
