| I don't find the criticism harsh at all, not to worry, I'm just stating that I'm tired of seeing the Queen on our medals when we are not likely mandated to do so by any legislation. I am a great admirer of many of our traditions, simply not the royal family. Yes, I would love to see a mountain on a medal or coin. Mt. Rundle, Mt. Logan. Why not. Why not Laura Secord and you are pulling my leg about the Chocolatier right? I would have thought it was obvious I might have meant the heroine of 1812.
As regards my comments getting silly, well, the thought that putting an Enfield on a medal might somehow equate to a regard for the Taliban is self-evidently preposterous. I won't take that any further.
As for the sandbox level of some of the threads, I watched the forum daily for a long time until I got sick and tired of the same old tired vitriol being spouted. A thread would start well enough, somebody asking a question. Often enough, they were quickly shown the door and told they should have been smarter and bought so and so's book and bloody looked it up for themselves. On the other hand, if things do go well, I have all to often seen the conversation degrade to character assasination, some of which become so impolite that Mike either locks the thread or deletes responses.
This is frankly the first time in months I have looked at the forum, but I don't really think any of my comments could be classed as silly. I do realize the Queen is a pretty important figure to many people, but not supporting what I see as the rather dusty idea of the monarchy and wanting to see a little more home-grown Canadian symbology surely doesn't leave me in a wasteland of opinion by myself.
Obviously I'm not the only person that thinks making medals out of silver again isn't a bad idea because that is exactly what they are proposing. The Vimy Memorial, furthermore is exactly what I would like to see on a medal. Perhaps just something else on the obverse.
Anybody who agrees with me, feel free to jump in. It's getting a little chilly in this end of the pool. |
