As for the cannon, who knows why it was worn that way.
It's all guess work from here on...but as Clive put it, he
is doubtful any photos exist from that period would show the cannon being worn improperly.
Since the Sgt would be aware of the error , he would turn his shoulder bearing the correct patch towards the camera, not the other way around....well, unless he war drunk! lol
