Response to As an aside, though

Hi Michael

You are absolutely right about the title. I was told by the publisher that in the process of advertising, the subtitle would be used more for searches etc. rather than the actual title. I was also told that the book would be properly circulated to various institutions, newspapers etc. however little if any of that was done.

The problem was, most, if not all, of the catchy titles were already used up. In using Snow Plough I wanted to direct the reader to the fact that it was a British operation and recorded in British institutions under their code name, not that chosen by the Americans. I found a wealth of info in those files previosuly not released. I also wanted to emphasize that the FSSF was not intended to be a suicide outfit as it is commonly referred to but a unit set up under a grand scheme of deception hitherto unknown to most historians. In fact the only historian to hint of a deception around Norway at that time period was a Norwegian author writing about the US 99th Infantry Battalion Separate and the recruitment of Norwegian volunteers.

So the book is about many things but brings forward the most comprehensive work on the Canadians. A condensed version of this history, which includes all new quotes and references as well as new information. ( including quotes from decrypts of German transmissions filed by the London Controlling Section regarding Jupiter's use as a deception and the FSSF inclusion in that deception )will be in the book I am completing with Clive.

Thanks for all the kind comments,

Ken
