Yes, the olden day corporal had a lot of responsibility but ... the "Good Ol' Days" .... when it wasn't difficult to spend a whole five year enlistment as a private without even making Lance Corporal? We forget that it was the norm at a hundred and ten bucks a month.

The rank today is no more than a well-deserved pay raise for the troops.

And today, are there any 2LTs? Seems like all present day platoon commanders are captains.
