Response to Could anyone comment on the quality of the video transfers?
I'm not an expert so I'll let someone with more technical expertise give a qualified opinion, but even so, I wasn't all that impressed. Given the age of the source material and the original quality, I'm not sure how much can be expected. The transfers seem much better than some of the "Deutsche Wochenschau" DVDs that were flogged on ebay in the not too distant past.
My first instinct was to think that it's kind of too bad the War Amps decided to put their watermark in the corner, as if they were the ones that shot the stuff. Given that they're selling this to make money, and a worthy charity to boot, added to which they've done a handsome job of packaging and presenting the material, it makes it harder to complain. I'm not positive the transfers couldn't have been better - but the videophiles can weigh in on that aspect.
Worth the money in my opinion, if only to save one the trouble of culling the low-res examples extant on ebay - which are incomplete. I don't know of any other source for the complete set of these. I doubt a better transfer looms any time in the future.
