Response to Military service

I am not sure but I think that every American president this century had some sort of military experience to put on the resume, with the exception of the current candidates.
In Canada the Prime Ministers that had significant military service were John Diefenbaker and Lester Pearson. Both were officers in the CEF, and Pearson later flew with the RFC. All the other PM's had law or business backgrounds, and none of them appear to have served in front line units overseas.
In reference to the Prime Minister most favourable to the armed forces, I would think Louis St Laurent oversaw the great growth of the Cold War armed forces.
