Mystery medal

July 3 2007 at 6:05 PM

OK,

I know it's not a Canadian medal, but there is a wealth of knowledge on this site who may be able to help ID this thing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-WW2-Italy-Italian-Medal-Enamel-Brass_W0QQitemZ290135391749QQihZ019QQcategoryZ4079QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I am not the seller, but I know the person who is selling it. He's had some people argue over just exactly what it is.

The I° gruppo cavalieri di Neghelli Medal doesn't exactly explain itself...

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Where exactly have these arguments been? You may want to direct those that can help to those locations? Do you mean online?

Arguements

Well, let's say a lack of information. I think people are trying to low-ball Brent Fletcher (who is selling the medal) and are encouraging him to pull the auction and sell it for a set price.

He's an honest seller (quite a nice thing to have here in town).

At this point it's just some "Italian medal" but it might be something quite rare and that someone is trying to get a bargain.

The flip side is that it is quite common and people are tired of inflated prices and just want to pay a reasonable price for it. I have no idea about Italian medals, so I suppose it could go either way. I know I've seen dirt-common Canadian medals on ebay (CVSM without ribbon, anyone?) marked up into the stratosphere and I emailed the vendor just to do him the courtesy of telling him he was wasting money on listing fees if he thought what he had was worth 500 bucks, or whatever it was.

There are several Italian army forums out there - mostly in Italian - that I referenced when researching my own page on Italian wartime decorations. May have some luck there if you haven't already tried them. I think Gruppo Supremo was one of them?

I'll suggest that avenue.
