Help with late Victorian/pre WW1 Canadian RegimentsAugust 22 2017 at 9:24 AM

I wonder if anyone can help with a query I have regarding Canadian army regiments of late Victorian or pre WW1 vintage? I have been following up some family history and have come across the Army Records of a distant relative;
Malcolm Macmaster, born Glasgow 30 May 1877, possibly sailed from Glasgow to Halifax on SS Numidian May 1904.
My query is that his attestation papers (dated 24/2/1916) when he joined 198th Battalion in Toronto suggest he had spent 10 years with 1st LRV - which could be 1st Batt Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, although why a lad from Glasgow would join a Lancashire Regiment (fine as it may be) is a bit strange, so a question does 1st LRV denote a Canadian Regiment? His papers also suggest he spent 10 yrs with the 48th - another Canadian regiment maybe?
Any suggestions gratefully received!
