CMP 3 Ton Ford F60H 6x4 with Mk VI Coles Crane

On page 169 of the late Clive Law's book "Drive to Victory", there are photos of a #11 Cab Ford F60H with a Mk VI Coles Crane mounted on the back. The vehicle intrigued me and I decided to do a master for Milicast Models Ltd. Now they have been cast, I have one I am currently working on but lack information regarding to which units they were issued.

According to Clive's information, there were only 7 produced and they were used for general engineering and bridging work. I have selected some decals for the 5th Canadian Div Bridging Troop but was wondering if anyone has more definitive information on to which units they were issued.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Regards,

Neil Craig

The Coles Crane would not have been assigned to a divisional bridging troop. Normally the heavy equipment like bulldozers and cranes were assigned to the field park company and this is the case with the cranes. One crane would have been with each of the divisional and corps field park companies in the Stores Platoon/Troop. This would make 7 cranes, 1 each with each division and corps.

Some additional info for you: the 4th Field Park Squadron, RCE was from Vancouver and formed in July 1940.

Many thanks for the input John. So, it looks like I could go with the 5th Cdn (Armd) Div formation sign and an AoS of 23 on Light Blue. Would you concur?

Neil Craig

The AoS should have read 42 not 23.

I'm just finishing the painting now and if you let me know your email.....I'll send you photos or a link to where I post them. I don't think there is anywhere on this forum where models are posted.
