I want to say it was probably south of Florence

I seem to remember heading for another small town  and then instead of going to it, I turned on a dirt road to the left - then I got to an area I could not access (near a quarry or a dump or something?) and turned around and instead of going to the town went straight across the road, which had I been on the pavement would have been turning to the right. There was nothing around for a long time then an area people had built homes in the midst of nothing (not many) When I was at that thing I could see a road off in the distance with cars driving
