The Chandler Mine was operated for 46 years, from 1896 to 1911, by the Colorado Fuel and
Iron Company (CF&I), and from 1911 until its closure in 1942 by the Victor-American Fuel
Company. The Caņon Wolf Park Mine operated for 26 years, from 1908 to 1915 as the Central
Mine of the Central Coal and Mining Company. From 1916 until its closure in 1934, the Caņon
Reliance Coal Company operated the mine as the Caņon Wolf Park. Mining took place in the
Chandler coal bed in two coal seams, Wolf Park No. 1 and Wolf Park No. 2 at approximately
1000 feet below ground surface. The Caņon Wolf Park Mine underlies about half of the Cotter
Milling Facility. Approximately 1.1 million tons of coal were mined from these operations.
These mines have been inactive for decades. No more coal mining is anticipated during the
lifetime of the Milling Facility. The large coal mines of Royal Gorge, NONAC #5, Chandler,
Brookside, and numerous smaller coal mines lie within four kilometers of the Milling Facility. A
ten-kilometer radius includes the South Field coal mining area and the gold and copper mines of
Dawson and Tanner Peak. These mines neither impact nor are impacted by the Milling Facility
Iron Company (CF&I), and from 1911 until its closure in 1942 by the Victor-American Fuel
Company. The Caņon Wolf Park Mine operated for 26 years, from 1908 to 1915 as the Central

Iron Company. It had two coal bed seams.

There was actually a town of Chandler which no longer exists.

Anson Rudd first not INdian settler in the area - his cabin still stands in Florence.  I have taken many pictures of it, at 7th and Royal Gorge.

thanks Phil I really appreciate you checking that out.
