"Anti-smoking drug poses health risk – DoH
Senator Pia Cayetano, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, supported the advisory of the Department of Health and the Bureau of Food and Drugs, warning those who wanted to quit smoking to stop taking anti-smoking drug, especially Chantix as it poses danger to their health.
DoH-BFAD Director Professor Leticia Barbara Gutierrez warned against taking Chantix (with generic name of Varenicline) due to its side effects, particularly in the human brains. It also cited the advisory of the United States Food and Drugs Administration (US-FDA).
Dr. Maricar Limpin of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians and Framework Convention on Tobacco Control-Alliance-Philippines, said that in case the US-FDA finding is proven true, BFAD should immediately stop the sale of the drug. (Rolly T. Carandang)
