At present the amount of cover bands out there are enough to make anyone roll their eyes, and say "Good grief!" For every Led Zeppelin cover band there’s another Beatles’ one popping up. Every once in a while though you get one that actually surprises you and you find yourself dancing along to his or her imitation voice. I found myself being just this with The Bowie Experience.

Their debut album Eight Song Poem was recorded live earlier this year during an acoustic performance. This is not a CD to be picked up thinking, "Oh it will be just like listening to David Bowie." That’s the wrong attitude. Approach this live album of nine glorious Bowie tunes as you would a collection of serious musicians who got together to jam. You will notice this professionalism when you hear the reworking of "Let’s Dance"- sure we all know it as a classic pop anthem, but did you realize there’s a seductive love song underneath? The Bowie Experience finds this underlying sensuality with the song slowed down to enjoy the serious moonlight.

To top the whole deal off, front man Laurence Bolwell actually posses a sort of Hunk Dory meets Earthling style voice. He sings "Oh You Pretty Things" with an eerie perfection, to then toss in a haunting presentation of "Space Boy (Hallo)." Then to make the deal just a little bit sweeter, he’s British to boot.

So get in on the experience, and request a copy of Eight Song Poem.
