In Evangeline Lt. Owen’s had to use their de-ditching gear twenty four times before the tank finally became immobile. Edward’s commander noted that it was “impossible to move without the de-ditching gear permenantly fixed”. Water in the carburettor of E1 meant that “the engine stopped…[and] was fed [with what would have been aviation spirit] by funnel and pipe to the carburettor”. In an old Mk I, 2/Lt Cohen noted that Europa’s radiator lost “5 gals [of water] per hour on average”
