Lancia armoured trucks

March 7 2012, 3:58 AM

Hi Ley,
The armoured Lancia came in two main versions, and many sub versions of
these two.The original WW1 version used in Italy by the british army
Was based on the Lancia IZ chassis of 1916.This type served with the
Btitish forces (R.A.F & Army)In Ireland ,Italy and the middle east.
In 1921 more were ordered, this time the chassis was the Lancia Triota.
The new chassis was similar in dimension, with a stronger engine and steering.
This version served along side its older sisters With the Irish national army
The Royal ulster constabulary and the RAF the Royal Irish constabulary and
The much hated black and tans.
The Irish free state army converted 5-7 Lancias to rail cars during the civil
war 1922-23. and the R.U.C and the irish army converted many armoured lancias
to tenders by removing there armour and fitting G.S. bodies.
In 1923 most of the Irish army Lancias recived armoured roofs in place of the
cage covered open top.
The last Lancias were retired from RUC service in 1967! 45 years of service.

I have drawings for a Triota based 1921 model if that is the version
you are after.I also have many photos of Irish lancias from north and south of
the border. PM me if thats any help.

regards
Aaron
