who has hired professional staff with everything from BAs to PhDs over the past 20 years, from schools all around the world, I can tell you that the school attended has limited influence on the selection process, although those schools with well-known co-op programs that produce entry level workers already trained to step into a job will get extra attention. Internships and co-op assignments are important and will get you a second look if they are relevant to the job. The degree does matter, and a Master's degree is now almost a minimum requirement to get a job interview, with areas of expertise and work experience the most important factors. I would caution young people about doing a PhD without serious consideration, because depending on the career field, the time spent in school instead of gaining work experience, and the likelihood of increased specialization, when many jobs now require greater flexibility and ability to go in new directions, can actually put you behind in your career track and make it more difficult to get a job. Transferrable skills and knowledge are key; what you can contribute on the job.
