Every season it is the same conversation. Parents of Bantam aged players feeling their daughters should step onto PWHL teams as 1st year midgets. The reality is that for all but the very best, that year or two of Midget will benefit them and allow those players to develop better. There are many cases of players moving on to the NCAA after playing at least one year of Midget, there are also many cases where players who play as 1st year midgets in the PWHL never get to the NCAA. It is different for all players. If you are with an organization that has had a lot of success moving players to the NCAA then my recommendation is let them decide what is best for your child, they have the experience, do not worry about pushing them along too fast.
The PWHL consistently has, on average between 1 and 2 first year Midget aged players on each team. This will likely stay the same for the foreseeable future. | |
