I agree. Quite often the coaches kid wears the "C" as in "Coaches Kid". I don't have a D playing. I coach because I enjoy coaching. If someone said here is your team I would simply say no. The association has to pick the right coach. Picking the team for the coach states pretty clearly that you don't trust their judgement and ability to coach which raises the question why did they pick him/her to coach.
