While I'm not disputing that there are fatigue factors deep into a tournament, you CANNOT really compare Hockey vs BasketBall. Sports like Basketball, Track etc are weigth bearing sports, where you are much more limited WRT lengthy exercise due to impact jarring on the joints. Runners for example will have a hard time running for more than 1.5-2 hours a day, even at the Super Elite international level. Skating is less jarring, and it is not unheard of to practice twice a day, at least 3-4 hours on the ice daily during camps. Swimming and Cycling are even less weight bearing prone, so they train for hours on end, day in day out. If you try that in B-ball or Running, you would be sidelined real quickly. Hockey falls somewhere in between.
My point is that your experience with Basketball, while having some similarities with Hockey in terms of exertion, the breakdown of the body will be much quicker in B-ball. So 5 games in B-ball could be equivalent to 8 in Hockey (example, sure you could look up the stats from studies).
