Having coached on both sides I think our younger years lesson about sportsmanship focuses more on the less competitive side of things. This is a tough situation for all involved. If you pull in the reigns so to speak sure the score looks better, but I can tell you from experience that if it looks suspect in the least the kids at the higher levels know they're being toyed with and many will view that as a bigger lack of respect. Ultimately it boils down to individual feeling on the subject and that usually means its a no win situation.
