Time wasting during practices....

Why do some head coaches waste valuable ice time trying to talk to kids during practices instead of skating them or doing drills? I've seen practices recently where the girls look bored out of their minds listening to the coach go on and on and on, instead of doing drills.

At atom, kids get bored and tune out........is this because the kids are uncoachable or poor coaching? Is it that the girls just maybe don't want to be there? Why is it that on ice helpers are usually just standing around doing little while the HC talks to the players? Seems to be a lack of effective use of helpers. Any thoughts?
