Well unlike yourself and the OWHA (you are one in the same) people like to think outside the box!! They are not only concerned with hockey in Ontario but elsewhere. But I know, you ladies have a problem because you don't control it....now, go get your spoon and dig in to that big piece of pie you own called mediocrity!!

I don't understand "these are not jobs for life"

Why not.....

I believe Mr. Kilroy in Ottawa had one heck of a career coaching the same team for an awful long time....

Try telling all of those long-serving football coaches that it isn't a job for life.

That would be Kilrea and it is Major Junior Hockey, Not womens CIS. That is one in a million what coach Kilrea has done. Will never happen again.

But you better change your stat...and to keep in the college ranks Joe Paterno has coached Penn States football program since 1966.. Yes 45 years....

You missed my basic point with Mr. Kilrea and even Mr. Paterno. If the coach is doing a good job the school always competes who cares how long the coach is there....Good coaches are very difficult to find....

If she is doing a poor job (I can't say) then yes remove her but simply to say she has to go because she has been there to long is very silly....

Ryerson gets continuity and a coach within HC 's stable; Jordan gets closer to where many of the National Team players will develop as kids and St Mary's gets a new start!

she did a pretty good job. Eight league titles and four championships over a 12 year span, including last year.

"In 14 seasons as head coach of the Saint Mary's women's hockey team, Jordan led the Huskies to eight appearances in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) finals, capturing the league title in 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2010. She also coached Saint Mary's at four Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship tournaments. A two-time AUS coach of the year and CIS coach of the year in 2003, Jordan guided the Huskies to an impressive record of 118 wins, 52 losses and 11 ties over the last nine seasons."

WRT to Brian Kilrea. He is the most succesful coach in the history of Canadain Major Junior Hockey. He did not overstay, as he had success all the way until the end of his career.

Bear is a coaching expert, has all the answers to coaches at the CIS and NCAA level. Bear has an extensive playing and coaching background so very good insight.
So I would hold off on your comments and just like Dice these two have lots to offer and know the game at the highest level.

I enjoy their posts.

The move to the OUA will be good for Jordan......its a lot harder to garner 100 wins here than in the AUS so for her its a good move to place herself at a higher level.

As for Killer ....no question.....also he was paid by paying customers so performance was part of his contract...none better

Could have coached longer in the nhl but fortunately coached at the level where he contributed mightily in the development of young hockey players and individuals.

Agree,

If you consider yourself a life long learner then the more you can learn from everyone around you which includes the inexperienced and experienced the better off you will be. Knowledge is powerful so the more knowledge you can attain, the better equipped you will be to pass it down and make decisions that are best for you, your family or your career.

This forum is great for information, and although a few people can post negative connotations, these are the posts you can ignore as they have little value. Look at how other forums can get off topic and be very insulting to players who are our youth. This forum has a moderator(s) who gives up his/their time to making sure the rules are followed. You might not like how he moderates but if that's the case, leave and moderate your own forum. Nothing stopping you to try and make the difference.

So for the "know if alls" out there, continue to provide your opinions. I can make the judgement as to if I agree or disagree. I can control what information is of value to me or not. I'm at least mature or old enough to understand that what might not be relevant to me, might be relevant to someone else.

So for everyone who has shared information on this forum. Thank-you.
I have gained knowledge and in my mind, the more I can get the more I can pass onto the youth.

"You will be courteous to your elders who have explored to the point from which you may advance; and helpful to your juniors who will progress farther by reason of your labors. "

Killer was the perfect tonic for the 16-19 year olds he coached for so many years. Everytime there is a discussion about him by his former players on the local sports station it is fascinating and inspiring to listen to. The man was simply incredible, not only in coaching, but more importantly instilling a value system in all the players that played under his tutelage. His methods and approaches stood the test of time from the early seventies all the way until 2010. Truly amazing. While his methods and approach were the right tonic at the Junior level, they simply did not translate to the NHL. He coached under legend Al Arbour for a couple of years on the Island during their glory days, before returning to his stomping grounds.

I think young coaches getting into the game at the college or junior level could learn a lot from his approaches with young players. Read the Book.
