Next Year in Midget

I noticed that there will be the usual tidying up around the edges in Midget hockey next season. If you are still looking for a team then this might help you focus your efforts.

In Ottawa, the OLS/Kanata club is playing around with the tryout schedule. The Ottawa Ice club does not appear to have a MAA team for next year. The rest of the usual suspects should be back.

There don't seem to be any obvious changes on the east side of Toronto. Belleville could have a strong team at MAA but some may try the IAA route so there are no guarantees there. Napanee will likely stay at MBB. The "near" east teams in and around Durham shouldn't change much as all the MAA teams will be back and none appear to be planning to have 2 MAA teams.

In TO proper, Scarborough is staying at MA, Leaside is going with 1 MAA and 2 MA as is NY (!). Etobicoke is going with 5 "top" teams: 2 MAA and 3 MA. Vaughan is upping the ante with 2 MAA and 1 MA team which is the same as Mississauga. Aurora, Brampton, Willowdale and Markham are sticking with the traditional 1+1.

There does not appear to much of a change in the golden horseshoe. NF and Ancaster likely won't have MAA teams again. Flamborough has defied the odds and is staying at MAA.

In the SW, it is unclear what Chatham will do at MAA but most of the rest are sticking around. Belmont will stay at MA.

Fromm Ottawa Ice website:

The OGHA is now seeking applications for the 2011-2012 "AA" competitive teams. Atom AA, Bantam AA & Midget AA teams are planned for the upcoming season.

Even more MAA teams next year than this year!!! Why??? Teams will again have trouble filling spots.

Here is an evil thought: by adding a 2nd MAA team Vaughan guarantees their zone two spots in the Provincials (2 of 4 instead of just 1 of 3). If everything else remains equal this will cause the Toronto zone to lose their 3rd qualifying spot: only 2 of the 7 teams could qualify.

The evil part of this is that it would be worthwhile for a far-sighted individual to send in a letter to have one or more weak sisters in zones outside of Toronto recatted down next season. In other words, if you think you might be the 3rd qualifier in Toronto then you will want to "vote" someone else off the island in order to make it more likely for your zone to keep its quota.
