The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that goalie Kevin Regan has been signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) after four seasons with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. He will be eligible to make his professional debut when Providence takes on the Worcester Sharks tonight at the DCU Center at 7:05 p.m. With the move, the P-Bruins now have 26 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, nine defensemen and four goaltenders.
Regan, 23, is a local product out of South Boston, Massachusetts, and also a Boston Bruins draft pick in round nine, 277th overall, of the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The netminder recently completed his senior season at UNH, going 23-8-1 with a 2.21 goals-against-average and .930 save percentage. The year was highlighted by a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) from late-January to early-March, as well as three shutouts and two remarkable 50-plus save efforts. Regan blocked 52 shots in a 1-1 tie February 15 against the Providence College Friars before making 62 saves in a triple-overtime, 101 minute defeat to the Boston College Eagles on March 21 in the Hockey East Semi-Final at the TD Banknorth Garden.
At the conclusion of his collegiate season, Regan was named a Hobey Baker finalist, the Hockey East Player of the Year, the Walter Brown Award winner, given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England, and he was the Pure Defensive Player of the Week on seven occasions. The goalie was also selected to the All-Hockey East First Team. In his four years, Regan compiled a 70-29-10 record with nine shutouts, a 2.27 GAA and a .928 save percentage in 112 games. He became the only goalie in Wildcats history to capture back-to-back 20-win seasons and presently ranks first in UNH's program history in wins (70), saves (3,235) and save percent (.928).
The P-Bruins return to action to close out the regular season this week with four games in five nights, beginning tonight against Worcester at 7:05 p.m. Providence is back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center to start a home-and-home series with the Manchester Monarchs on Friday for Team Poster Giveaway Night at 7:05 p.m. The posters, free to the first 3,000 fans in attendance, are courtesy of ABC 6, University Orthopedics, Dunkin' Donuts and your New England Dodge Dealers. where it came from. That's why I edited it. I think your brain is running away with your nose. lol.
I hope this is just because they want to see how Kevin plays. I hope Jordan is ok. And Tuukka was on the bench on Sunday so I suspected he was better too.
Well, I missed the two of you correcting each other's notes, LOL! But we've had our comedies of it as well.
I find them signing a fourth goalie to be strange. We know that Jordan is fine. And it seemed that Tuukka was fine -- at least he had to be fine enough to play since he was backup on Sunday. The only thing that I can think of is that Tuukka is still iffy and for some reason Adam can't play in the playoffs. That's a bummer if he can't because he made a great debut.
