MANCHESTER, N.H. — T.J. Trevelyan, Jeff Hoggan and Martins Karsums scored goals and goaltender Kevin Regan earned the shutout by stopping all 23 shots he faced as the Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs, 3-0, last night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Regan, a former University of New Hampshire player, signed a pro contract last week. Last night was his pro debut.
Providence finishes its regular-season today at 4:05 p.m. against Lowell at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
After scoreless first and second periods, the P-Bruins got on the board at the 16:52 mark of the third period. Zach Hamill sent the puck to Matt Hunwick, who dished it off to Trevelyan. He shot the puck past Monarchs netminder Jonathan Bernier and into the net for his 18th goal of the season.
Providence went up 2-0 at the 17:30 mark while short-handed. Sean Curry stole the puck in his own zone and passed it to Matt Hendricks who sent Hoggan away on a breakaway. Hoggan waited for Bernier to commit to the right side, then shot to the opposite side for his 29th goal of the season.
The P-Bruins wrapped up the scoring with an empty-net goal at the 19:46 mark. Karsums tallied his 20th of the season, with Chris Collins and Adam McQuaid picking up the assists.
Bernier made 27 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins went 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. |
