REMAINING BRUINS OUSTED AT WORLDS
United States and Czech Republic Fall in Overtime
Halifax, NS - The United States team was eliminated by Finland after falling 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night in the playoff round quarterfinals of the 2008 IIHL World Championship. Former Providence Bruins center Phil Kessel scored his sixth goal of the tournament for the United States but Finland advanced to the semifinals where it will face Russia.
The Czech Republic squad, playing without P-Bruins 2006-07 Rookie of the Year David Krejci, was defeated 3-2 in overtime as well on Wednesday, falling to Sweden in Quebec City, Quebec. Sweden moves on to face Canada in the semifinals.
In other action, Russia shutout Switzerland 6-0 while Canada triumphed over Norway 8-2 to move on.
Both semifinals games are scheduled for Friday in Quebec City. The bronze medal game will be played on Saturday and the gold medal game is Sunday.
