P-Bruins’ firepower is too much for Falcons

PROVIDENCE — Six players scored goals as the Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons, 6-3, last night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Jeff Penner, Jordan Knackstedt, Martins Karsums, Matt Lashoff and Wacey Rabbit.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 42-second mark of the opening period when St. Pierre tallied his second goal of the season. Johnny Boychuk and Karsums recorded the assists.

Springfield answered at the 4:28-mark when Jake Taylor netted his first goal of the season on assists by Rob Schremp and Mike Gabinet.

The P-Bruins regained the advantage with a power-play goal at the 8:53 mark of the period. Andrew Bodnarchuk held the puck at the blue line and sent it halfway up the right boards to Brad Marchand. He sent the puck to the near boards for Penner, who spun around before skating into the left faceoff circle. From there, he beat Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk for his first goal of the season.

Providence took a two-goal advantage at the 12:04 mark. Mikko Lehtonen found Penner at the blue line. He took a shot and the puck went off the stick of Knackstedt and into the net.

The P-Bruins extended their lead at the 17:40 mark, while on the power play. Boychuk worked the puck from the right point to Lehtonen along the left boards. He dropped the puck off to Karsums who scored his second goal of the season from the left faceoff circle.

In the second period, the Falcons cut the P-Bruins lead to 4-2, while on the power play. At the 16:44 mark, Liam Reddox tallied his first goal of the season, with Colin McDonald and Ryan Potulny getting the assists.

In the third period, the Falcons pulled to within a goal at the 1:21 mark, while on the power play. Derek Bekar netted his first goal of the season with Tyler Spurgeon and Vlacheslav Trukhno getting the assists.

The P-Bruins came back with two unanswered goals to finish the scoring.

Kevin Regan stopped 24 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 10 saves and Glenn Fisher had 16 saves for the Falcons. P-Bruins
