SOBOTKA RECALLED BY BOSTON

Center Earns Second NHL Call-Up of the Season

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have recalled center Vladimir Sobotka to Boston on an emergency basis. He will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip to Washington and Atlanta. With the move, the P-Bruins have 23 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

Sobotka, 21, heads north to Boston for the second time in 2008-09 after appearing in five games for the big club in October, averaging 9:13 minutes of ice-time per game. The second-year center was a healthy scratch for five additional games before being assigned to Providence on November 4.

In two stints for Providence this season, Sobotka has posted points in 13 of 17 games for 21 points overall (10g, 11a). He leaves the P-Bruins riding a five-game point-streak, during which he has registered seven points (2g, 5a). Over 17 games, Sobotka has seven multiple-point games, tied with Johnny Boychuk and Martin St. Pierre for the team-high.

Sobotka split the 2007-08 campaign between Boston and Providence, appearing in 48 regular season games with Boston while amassing seven points (g, 6a), plus another six Stanley Cup Playoff contests, where he scored two goals versus the Montreal Candiens. His first NHL point came on December 12, 2007, recording an assist against the Atlanta Thrashers. Sobotka also enjoyed several other NHL firsts, including his first goal at the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 13, his only multiple-point game with two assists April 4 against the Ottawa Senators, his playoff debut at Montreal on April 12 and the first of two playoff goals five nights later. A native of Trebic, Czech Republic, Sobotka had 20 points (10g, 10a) and a plus-12 rating in 18 regular season games for the P-Bruins a year ago.

Sobotka was drafted by Boston 106th overall in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Yelle

No, not at the recall. LOL

"The Bruins lost veteran center Stephane Yelle in the second period of Monday's 5-3 win over the Lightning. He suffered an undisclosed injury in a collision with a lineseman and did not return to the game."

That's why... I DO hope Vladdy gets a lot of ice time! We will miss him a lot.

Funny

Yelle was skating up ice along the board looking behind him not realizing the linesman was standing on the blueline. HELLO???? How many games has this guy played in his career?? A TON??? He knows thats where the linesman camps. Yelle slammed right into him and went down in a heap. It looked like he had been hit my a Mack truck. And the funny thing was the linesman didn't feel a thing. He wasn't even fazed by the hit. It was the funniest thing.

I admit that I didn't see much of the game. OK, I'm a Heroes fanatic.. but I also got home late. So I missed when that happened and that is why I was so blank about anyone getting hurt. He got hurt by running down a linesman? Oh brother! sad.gif
