P-Bruins bow to Manchester in overtime

MANCHESTER, N.H. The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs in overtime last night, 3-2, at Verizon Wireless Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Brad Marchand and Martins Karsums.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 4:56 mark of the opening period. Jeff Penner had the puck at the blue line and left it for Mikko Lehtonen halfway along the left boards. Lehtonen took a shot and the rebound came right to Marchand, who scored top shelf for his seventh goal of the season.
Manchester tied the game at the 5:35 mark while on a power play. Gabe Gauthier netted his fourth goal of the season, with Scott Parse and Trevor Lewis assisting.
Manchester took its first lead of the game at the 14:53 mark of the second period during a power play. Gauthier tallied his fifth goal of the season, with Matt Moulson and Lewis getting the assists. The Monarchs went into the second intermission leading, 2-1.
The P-Bruins tied the game at 18:23 of the third period while on a power play. Johnny Boychuk sent the puck from the blue line to Marchand behind the net. Marchand sent the puck toward the slot and Karsums was there to put it into the net for his 16th goal of the season. In overtime, the Monarchs got the winning goal at the 3:13 mark. Lewis scored his ninth goal of the season, with Vladimir Dravecky getting an assist.
Providence goalie Tuukka Rask stopped 27 of 30 shots while Jeff Zatkoff made 29 saves for the Monarchs.
The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill. |
