Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Tuesday that the club has recalled defenseman Matt Lashoff from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis and assigned goaltender Tuukka Rask to the Providence Bruins. Lashoff will join the Boston Bruins for practice on Wednesday and accompany the team on their two-game road trip to Long Island and Washington.

Lashoff has seen action in 13 games for Boston this season, registering one assist, and has played in 18 games for Providence with 4-12-16 totals. He split last season between Boston and Providence and skated in 18 NHL games, registering 1-4-5 totals and appeared in 60 games for the P-Bruins, tallying 9-27-36 totals. The 22-year-old Lashoff was originally drafted by Boston in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has appeared in 43 NHL games in his career.

Rask was recalled on an emergency basis on two occasions (Saturday, January 10 and Monday, January 12) and served as the team's backup goalie in their 5-1 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday, January 10 and their 3-1 win over the Canadiens on Tuesday, January 13.

Rask has started 30 games this season for Providence and has posted a 17-13-0 record with a 2.42 Goals Against Average and .919 save percentage. His 17 victories are the second most in the AHL. Rask played in four games last year for Boston and registered a 2-1-1 record, with his first NHL game and first NHL victory coming on November 20, 2007 in a 4-2 win at Toronto. Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round (21st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, the 21-year-old Rask was acquired by the Bruins on June 24, 2006 in exchange for goaltender Andrew Raycroft.

The Bruins will practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, MA on Wednesday, January 14 and then head to Long Island to face the Islanders at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 15

Lashoff and Who is in Net

January 14 2009, 8:26 AM

I don't get why Matt Lashoff was sent back to Providence to begin with... I guess that they thought they had a healthier defense (finally) then they did.

And the "who is in net" may continue.. I've heard rumors that Manny stormed out of the locker room after the last game he thought he was going to play, and then heard that his name isn't on his locker.. then hear it's a minor injury. Then I hear it's a something else. I just hope he's not choosing prima donna mode. We can't be having poor Tuukka going back and forth and then by the time he gets back here he's exhausted and ends up not playing. If Manny is being a jerk, then I hope he snaps out of it. If it's a slight injury, the heal now!
