P-Bruins prevail in a shootout

PROVIDENCE The Providence Bruins defeated the Manitoba Moose, 3-2, last night in a shootout in front of 8,317 fans at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Jeff Penner and Johnny Boychuk. The P-Bruins got their goals in the shootout from Martin St. Pierre and Mikko Lehtonen.
After a scoreless opening period, the Moose took a 1-0 advantage at the 2:37 mark of the second session while on a power play. Alexandre Bolduc scored, with Josh Soares and Raymond Sawada getting assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at 1-1 at the 8:20 mark of the period. Zach Hamill sent the puck from behind the Manitoba net to Peter Schaefer halfway along the left boards. Schaefer found Penner at the left point and he blasted the puck into the net.
The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 8:41 mark of the third period. Lehtonen passed the puck in front of the crease to Boychuk, who scored his 11th goal of the season. Manitoba tied the game at 2-2 while shorthanded at the 17:00 mark. After a scoreless overtime the game went into a shootout. St. Pierre and Lehtonen scored in the first two rounds, respectively. Manitobas Mike Keane tallied in the third round to pull within a goal. Neither team scored in rounds four or five. |
