P-Bruins acquire Stephenson from Moose
03/02/2009 1:15 PM
The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced today they have traded defenseman Matt Stephenson to the Providence Bruins for future considerations.
Stephenson, 24, has appeared in 53 games this season with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. So far, the Midland, Ont., native has scored 27 points (5-22-27) and 127 penalty minutes. Stephenson played in five AHL games with the Iowa Stars at the end of the 2007-08 season and tallied two penalty minutes in that time.
After playing four seasons in the NCAA with St. Cloud State, Stephenson appeared in 141 games and accumulated 51 points (7-44-51).
Well, with our new injuries, that was surely a need! I don't know that much about him, but I'll be looking more. I can't believe that it's not even on the P-Bruins web site STILL!
Holding breath on trades for another 24-1/2 hours...

Defenseman has Appeared in 53 Games for Idaho this Year
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that they have acquired defenseman Matt Stephenson from the Manitoba Moose for future considerations. With the move, the P-Bruins have 24 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Stephenson, 24, was recalled by Manitoba earlier today and joins Providence from the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, where he has appeared in 53 games this year while totaling 27 points (5g, 22a) and a team-high 127 penalty minutes. The ECHL All-Star is in his first full professional season and leaves Idaho leading all Steelheads defensemen in scoring, adding a plus-nine rating. He has registered six multiple-point outings and three point-streaks of at least three games each.
The undrafted native of Midland, Ontario, made his professional debut late last season for the AHL's Iowa Stars, going scoreless in five games after finishing up his senior season for the St. Cloud State Huskies. In four years for the Huskies, Stephenson amassed 51 points (7g, 44a) and 159 PIM in 141 collegiate games, captaining the squad as a senior and earning the team's Most Improved Player Award as a freshman.
