This will not be your usual game report because it was not the usual game.

Albany and Providence went scoreless even after OT. I give kudos to Tuukka (who did earn the third star) and I was really impressed with defensemen, Johnny Boychuk, Jeff Penner and Adam McQuaid. As for the Bruins not scoring during regulation, they really didn't get a lot of shots off that were quality. Sure, they had 47 shots on goal while Albany only had 30, but I'd say that half of Providence's shot (if that) were scoring chances.

Anyway, it's a shootout.. so we begin and right away Martin St. Pierre scores. Great! No other scoring happens. Then the last player for Albany shoots. Tuukka stops it. Wait a minute... after that and when we are about to celebrate out win, the player who shot it, shoots the puck, AGAIN? And, of course it goes in. The the wacko ref is gesturing that it's a goal... the shootout is tied. Say WHAT? It was right in front of me. Our whole section was going NUTS! They showed the reply and everyone went nuts. Oh, that's nothing yet.

Round 6 takes place and this time Martin misses. Albany's player shoots and, whew, it didn't go over the line!! Wait a minute.. the lunatic ref is gesturing that it's a goal. WHAT? They show it on replay. EVERYONE sees that it doesn't go over the line, but for some screwy reason it's a goal and Albany wins the shootout.

I NEVER have seen a game that was so insane in my entire life. Tuukka threw his stick toward the ref. I don't blame him and stormed off and the team followed. I never ever saw anything so insane in my life. We didn't lose, but somehow we only got one point..

Frederic L'Ecuyer, you better have guards on you. I'm sure that Rob Murray will be submitting the tape.

I'm hearing and reading so many different versions of what happened, I'm doubting what I think I saw. Now I cant even be sure what actually happened.

Well

March 21 2009, 12:29 PM

Well, you know where I sit, so in this case I did get to have a (literal) front row view). In the first "goal" the guy shot TWICE! Tuukka made the save, and then the puck was out and the Albany player shot it AGAIN and the ref was so dumb he didn't even get that Tuukka made a save?! OK, if that one was in for whaever reason, the last goal, was 100% not a goal. I looked onhttp://www.abc6.com/sports/41623302.html ABC News and it shows the last shot as hitting the post. From where we sat we didn't see that, but what we did see is the puck just go in a tiny, but Tuukka stopped it and it NEVER crossed the line. Our section and the next two behind the net were screaming because it was right in front of our eyes. When the ref called that last save a goal we could NOT (I still can't) believe it because it was like the hand in front of our faces that we could see that it was a save. So, for what it's worth, you know where I sit, so you know what I saw.

I'm just worried about Tuukka getting suspended now, but I don't blame him for being livid.

Agree

First the ref blew two calls in OT and needs to be held accountable by the AHL. It was awful!!!What is really unfortunate is that Tuukka threw a nutty at the end. I understand why and when I was saw the stick flying I flashed back to John Grahme in 02 throwing his stick. We need Tuukka down the stretch to win the division title and he will be suspended for some games. It was a bizzare ending to a good played game.

When Refs Lose Control of the Games

March 21 2009, 12:35 PM

Oh, I remember that John Grahame fit, I also remember one punch coming from him when one pain kept standing on top of him. LOL. I have to say I like it when a goalie stands up for his beliefs, but like you, I'm now worried about suspension time.

But, this is what happens when the ref loses control of the game. He lost control way back in the third period when he wasn't called anything on Albany. I don't think he was calling much of anything. So, you watch your team get stomped on and that's not very thrilling.

Looking at the ABC thing was a bit funny because sitting behind the net showed a totally different story. The first player shot TWICE. But, they don't show that... and they even showed the replay of the last goal and showed that it wasn't over the line, but they still called it a goal.

How long until this hits YouTube?

The first goal.....

March 21 2009, 6:35 PM

The first goal was not shot twice. The shooter took the puck to Rask's right and lost control of the puck. The puck was moving parallel to the goal line and had stopped forward motion. The play should have been stopped right there. Instead he shoots it in and the ref calls the goal. Wow, what a blunder.

From Our View

March 21 2009, 8:20 PM

From our view it looked like the goal was shot twice because he (obviously what we see now) brought the puck so close to the net at first that Tuukka put out his blocker and "saved" it. Then we all thought it was a win (including Tuukka) and were surprised to see the shooter "shoot again", because to him, he hadn't shot, but to all of us (including Tuukka) his first "move" right near the net was "saved". So, it looked like he made a save and then there was another shot. From where others sat, they saw what you did. Case in point, it wasn't a goal and we should have won sad.gif

Well, that didn't take long to hit YouTube. It may not stay long.. it's copy written to Channel 6 News. It will be interesting to see how long it stays up.
