It was a cruel gift but I knew what it meant.
Maybe that's why Lisa looks so sad and gained so much weight.
It only comes around once and like the Hawk it's selective on what it feeds. I had my shot but passed on it. Sometimes I think that was a mistake, other times I know it was a road that I no longer wanted to travel. So I packed and left it all far behind me and the truth is I'll never know now. I hitched a ride in a different direction, a longer sojourn more fraught with peril. That's really all life is, a series of roads and choices.
I guess you just walk up to the table, take a deep breath and toss the dice. This time I gambled no more than I spent. It's too soon to call and I'm edgy. The dice are still rolling and I've got my fingers crossed. The casino has become quiet, all of the other players are just standing around and watching, waiting to see what numbers come up. At least I don't have to worry about the time.
