stop trying to understand

heh. hunter this and hunter that. the bastard is dead! just the way he wanted too... good for him! he's sitting up there in gonzo heaven laughing at all of us, drunk as a skunk on tequila snow-cones and doing lines of coke off of a stripper's tits. if you sit there with your with your selfish grief imagining how you can't live without him, you never understood his message to begin with. so piss off.

for the rest of you, have a few drinks tonight, (or smoke a joint, pop an E or whatever) and just plain remember this man who told the absolute truth, added more to many peoples' lives than did any other influence, and, while often afraid, never let it beat him.

hunter isn't dead. just like faulkner isn't dead, ginsberg isn't dead, and hemmingway isn't dead. he has become, as his influences have also, a part of the american literary canon.

Hunter the Curious

February 22 2005, 7:21 PM

A fascination for the untried that will bend your mind, death as an experience was inevitable. Russian roullete is a game odds, one that didn't force Thompson to decide, but in true style let fate make it's choice for him.

Of course getting there was half the fun. Thompson loved firing off that pistol of his to anything that moved, and I think we can all agree he saw "things that moved" in a far greater capacity than any one of us.

The odds finally caught up with him. No doubt Thompson is as surprised as anyone that he lived as long as he did. That plus Thompson wanted to make damn sure he died with his boots on, (probably in front of his typewriter too). And you're absolutley right, he's laughing his head off and having a blast.

Hey, I totally agree, I think it's hilarious that we're all sitting here bitching when he'd much rather have us out celebrating, and getting totally ripped, GOD BLESS!

One group of students, said bye

February 23 2005, 2:57 PM

I heard the news as I left for a brainstorming session with classmates over a new student radio show we are doing…

45 minuets later I walk in to my friend’s house with out saying a word I follow the smell of hot grass back to THE ROOM. I say “you here the ****” he said “about Hunter S.” I said, “**** happens don’t it” he passed the one-hitter and poured us a couple glasses of Stolichnaya.

Then we went about planning how we could put together a cutting edge show without the censorship and bull**** that comes with student radio that is using university equipment.

Here’s to your Hunter S. Thompson. We may never equal your greatness or honesty as few can. But we won’t take any guff from those ****ing swine!!!

Who replaces HST in our times?

February 23 2005, 3:32 PM

Is the best we have as far as a guy who holds politicians feet to the fire John Stewart? That's pretty sad. Someone help me out on this one because that's where I see the big loss. I can't think of one friggin guy alive who comes close to the genious and "cut to the chase" of HST.

There is no replacement

February 23 2005, 5:08 PM

nobody replaces hunter. if anyone comes even marginally close it's p.j. o'rourke, but he's no gonzo. he's simply brilliant and, as a side note, often acerbic

it's up to us to... well, not replace him, but honour him and not give the f ucking pigs anything to tackle

remember. as janis joplin said, "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose..."

**** the pigs

cheers

i love the cannon

February 24 2005, 3:49 PM

as i'm sure you all know by now, family & friends of Hunter are trying to find a cannon from which to blast his cremated remains.

that is worthy of some serious respect; and a genuine grin and nod....

the bastards

February 25 2005, 4:40 PM

so what the ****?

what are YOU doing to remember hunter? are you writing? are you drinking? are you screaming? are you fighting?

me, i'm writing, drinking, screaming, and fighting. oh ya smoking scads of sativa and even some nice gold seal hash. but i wrote a hell of an article about pregnant transexuals. my wife called me an ******* when she read it. that means it's good.

it's been one co cksucker of a week!

a small favour: please my friends speak up and shut down the degenerate swine posting drivel on the board. the stupid things being said around here are just plain idiotic... i'll accept insulting comments if they're intelligent; but white-trash ramblings are merely a waste of time and space. we don't need them.

cheers, good health, and strong spirits

good s hit!

February 25 2005, 5:51 PM

i watched troy the other day and ya ya it sucked, but they said the funeral games have to go on for 12 days. woo hoo!

now then, i'm averaging a gram of speed, a 26 of vodka, and an eighth of weed a night so far (but let's be honest, it's been weeknights and i've had to work, so the average could very well change tonight!). i've written 46 pages, and read rum diaries and also "hunter" by e. jean carroll (my favorite biography). i'd love to expand some more, but my glass is empty

cheers

Re: stop trying to understand

March 2 2005, 8:34 PM

You are an utter *******. Here I am, searching for some articles to read up on the news of the death of someone who is this persona that I feel I have grown to know, to respect, and love, and then I come across your assinine statement and I am compelled to ask you, do you read? Don't you enjoy getting into the mind of a brilliant person and doesn't it make you feel sorry to know that everything they will ever create has already been created?
I would like to know, what's wrong with mourning the death of someone you respect and admire and are glad was a part of this world? Yeah, alot of great people have died but does that make their life any less important? There IS a difference between being alive and being a legacy. But back to Hunter, he is not just a great writer, he is a genius and I think if all you see of his existence is through the limited scope of your so-called "literary cannon" than you really are missing out on the grand scheme of things jerk. Yeah, pop an e and think about Faulkner you pretentious ****. I bet you are one of those know-it-all ******* college students who just wants to be Jack Kerouac. You are a dime a dozen and you don't even know it because you are probably too busy thinking that you are so original, that there is no one else like you (I wish that there wasn't). Seriously, have some depth. Now that Hunter S. Thompson has died we can retire him to an Anthology, yeah right you stupid ****. You should respond to this message or you prove yourself to be ball-less, spineless, ignorant and just a big stinking turd.
