I remember on the BBC documentary, Hunter wanted a massive monument of the double thumbed Gonzo fist built in his backyard (mountains) and his ashes shot out from that. I've read that his ashes will be shot out and exploded over his ranch, but have heard nothing of the monument. Anyone know anything about it?

There IS a project in the works.
An official one.
I can't reveal details, but if it does happen, it will be quite grand.

It's not Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ... or Los Angeles
The documentary you are referring to is actually called "Fear and Loathing on the Road to Hollywood", over the years it's been retitled by packagers, etc. but this is/was the real title.
..anyone that is interested or loves hunter should see this "documentary", it's very good. and it's very gonzo: they make him out to see incomprehensibly nuts during most of the movie through editing, then when the last 20 minutes rolls around they start playing all the pieces they cut out which explains his behavior and comments (like dropping ice on the lawn) in the early pieces that have you going "WTF". ...this type of "editing" explains alot about Hunter and the way he has long been portrayed by the media, specially since the filming of fear&loathing.
it looks like you can download it free! http://www.dracule.com/download.php?view.387
