I'll probably be visiting Mt. Hood in January (whenever I can find cheap airfare), and will drive out to Mt. Elbert in late February. I've done some climbing on Hood before, so I feel comfortable going without a guide service. The bergshrund is usually closed up and the crowds are greatly reduced, making it much safer in my mind. There is avalanche danger in the Pearly Gates, but it minimizes quickly after a big storm. Are you interested in coming along?
