Cheers!

Re: Your Stevens boat

September 2 2005, 7:56 PM

Hello!
My name is Spike Morelli, and I currently own four Stevens boats, two 18' flatbottoms and two hydros. A lot of people tend to contact me from The Classic V-Drive Club Of America ,of which I am a member, in regards to Stevens boats and parts,so I've been working on a new website dedicated to only Stevens. Included in this site is going to be a registery of all known Stevens boats.
If I could, I'd like info on your boat such as original colors, original engine, factory or owner installed engine or rigging, hull number(I've found that the number is usually hand written,upside-down inside the transom, under the resin, somewhere around the middle of the transom).
Maybe even a picture for my files?
One of my boats can be seen in The Vintage Hydroplanes website. On the main page, scroll down on the left, click on "viewers photo albums", then click on Bob Foley's photos. ON the third page you'll see the "Mortician", which is currently being restored by me.
Hope to here from you, Spike

65 Stevens

September 13 2005, 1:39 PM

I own a 65 stevens, i bought it 25 years ago and still have it. I currently changed the motor around, it used to drive off the front and this was alwas creating problems with broken crank shafts. I changed this and once again it has become a dependable boat. When i got this thing it was heading for the junk heap, i restored it but i regret covering over the wood deck. This is going to be my next project. I never found and marking to prove that it is a Stevens, just the old owners word on it. I will look under the rear transome and see if there is something. Also i would like to know more about who this person Stevens was. Can you help. Thank you all and email me back and i can send a current picture of my baby.

Stevens hydro

September 15 2005, 10:29 PM

I was surfing thru the web looking for any info on Stevens Hydros. My father had one when I was a young boy and I would like to find one to restore. I believe his was built proior to 1968 and had a 429 engine. Its color was a brite metalfkake red with a silver stripe,it had a v=drive and only two seats.I know it was drag raced in the michigan area until the mis seventies. Any info on these boats would be greatly appriated.
thanks Dave

Stevens

September 16 2005, 6:05 AM

Manny,
Look under Boats at this site and then
Crazy Thing SK. This is a typical Stevens
Hemi powered SK runabout. This boat was driven by Bill Sterret's brother-in-law, Jim Haye.
Mac Stevens was one of the many southern California race boat builders during the 60s.
I think there was another Stevens pictured in
an early issue of Propellor. This was at the
nationals in San Diego.

65 Srevens

September 20 2005, 3:32 PM

Rob
Do you think there is a way to find this old boats history, i have not found the hull numbers yet but the run down i know is this, I bought it from a person name Joe Hale in Garden Grove, it was a bare hull on a thrashed trailer, with a v drive and seats, wood deck all screwed up. The marine hardware was set up for the drive off the front. I looked at Bob Foleys photo album and saw a flatbottom called hobo II and that is what mine looked like. Now i dont belive that these are production boats that are just off any assembely line and someone probaly has a record of the hull numbers. Am i making any sence, what do you think.
Hope to hear from you soon
