We keep seeing lots of articles in the trade press and web relating to this subject and already know that it will become UK law in October of this year BUT still we are not sure what it will mean to the industry on a day-to-day basis and how it will be implemented. Our belief is that it will take a long time to be fully adopted but that the key to that is in manufacturers being ready to respond asap. Does anyone else have any views on this topic??

My guess is that WEEE will have a slow take up overall and that the initial areas of intensive activity will involve the electronics industry. The vital link in the whole chain seems to be equipment distributors as they are likely to become the local collection points for manufacturers equipment. How will they be involved in the process - incentivised by manufacturers?
The Dutch model for this kind of product life cycle materials recovery and recycling hasn't worked by all accounts so it remains to be seen how it will work across the rest of europe.
