SAP Appendix Q

I've just been told earlier this week, by a representative of one of the market leaders in ventilation, that to comply with Building Regs Part F and L I have to buy a SAP Appendix Q listed ventilation unit. Is this true? It seems a little questionable to me. Can anyone shed any light on the subject?! Mike
