I spent the weekend on the North shore by Cedar beach and Stony Brook. I was free diving all weekend and swimming with the kids. Anywhere there was current there was also jelly fish and lots of them. I usually have a fairly high tolerance for stings but with only a shorty wetsuit, I was burning on every exposed area of my body. Once my lips and chin were on fire I gave up. All of the kids were stung by loose free floating tentacles in the shallows. I was going to grab my camera and film some of them but by the time I got out of the water I felt like one big bee sting.
Just so you know there are a couple simple remedies for jelly fish stings.
1.Urine will back the stinger barbs so if it is really bad wipe some pee on your wounds. Only make sure your hands are free of tentacles and stingers before you grab your willy.
2. Vinegar will also back them out
3. Wet sand mud mixture. I rub it along the sting. It seems to sooth and clean the barbs out
