Class X student among 3 killed in Valley

SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Three persons including a 10th class student were killed in an encounter at Kelam-Kulgam in Anantnag district.
Reports said that last night militants fired upon a patrolling party of 9 RR at Kelam-Devsar, Kulgam in Anantnag district. In the retaliatory action, a tenth class student identified as Mudasar Ahmad Wani was injured and later on he succumbed to his injuries in a hospital at Srinagar.
The reports added that this morning the security forces cordoned off the whole area and started combing operations in the area. Two militants owing allegiance to the HM who were trapped in the area tried to break the cordon but they could not succeed and were engaged in an encounter with the security forces.
In the ensuing encounter both these militants were killed. The slain militants were identified as Sabzaar Ahmad Wagay resident of AdiGatno and Javed Ahmad Dar resident of Tol-Nowpora, Kulgam.
A police spokesman said that two AK rifles, eight magazines and seven hand grenades were recovered from the debris of the Income Tax building where fidayeen had stormed the building and an encounter started between them and the security forces.
Meanwhile, protest demonstrations were held at Ajas-Bandipora in Baramulla district against the alleged atrocities by the security forces. The protestors blocked the Srinagar-Bandipora road and it was only after six hours that order was restored in the area.
Police re-inforcement was called into the area and they contacted the local unit of the army. The concerned army officer assured the people that no atrocities would be carried on the locals. This pacified the protestors and called off their protest demonstrations.
