Forces eliminate 7 ultras in Rajouri, Poonch

JAMMU, Jan 19: Achieving another major sucess, security forces today eliminated seven militants in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Five militants were killed in an encounter at Bainambal area of Kotranka near Budhal in Rajouri district while two other were gunned down in Mambal area of Krishna Ghani in Mendhar tehsil of district Poonch.
It is pertinent to mention here that five intruders were shot dead by the security forces near line of control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area of Mendhar, yesterday.
Killing of a dozen militants within 24 hours in the twin border district is a major blow to the militant outfits.
Elsewhere a girl was injured when some unidentified militants hurled a grenade inside the house of a contractor at Azad Mohallah Poonch and a hideout was busted at Saladar area of Rajouri.
Defence authorities claimed to have eliminated five militants including some hardcore ultras of Hizbul Mujahideen Pir Panjal range (HMPPR) at Bai Hambal near Khawas area of Budhal in district Rajouri this morning. Authorities maintained that based on specific information, troops of CIF (Uniform) and Mountain Brigade launched search and destroy operation in Bai Mambal area last evening. The troops laid a cordon around the village throughout the night. Troops picked up movement of four militants at 2330 hours last night. On being challenged, the militants opened indiscriminate firing and entered the dhok. The troops, authoriteis maintained, pursued and cordoned off the dhok.
Army authorities added that the dhok caught fire during the gunbattle. In the early morning hours troops evacuated the people and cattle from the dhok. In a surgical operation troops brought heavy volume of fire on the dhok, killing all the four militants. The bodies were retrieved later in charred condition. The dhok was apparently frequented by the militants for administrative needs authorities claimed.
Army identified two slain ultras as Sangar Pathan alias Sikandar and Sayeed Dilawar Saghah, both belonging to HMPPR.
Four AK rifles, 251 roudns of AK, 17 AK magazines, one RPG ammunition, 4 radio sets, three detonators and two hand grenades were recovered from the possession of slain ultras. SSP Rajouri MA Mujtaba. When contacted confirmed the killing of four ultras and the owner of the house in which the militants had taken shelter. He said that the encounter took place at Bainambal under the jurisdiction of police station kandi.
SSP claimed that acting on an intelligence inputs regarding movement of 6 militants in Sada ara of Kalakot, a police team was despatched to the area. They observed the movement of militants and chased the militants. The militants, he said, went to the upward area and reached Bai Nambal where the jawans of 60 Rashtriya Rifles had laid cordon. The militants, SSP maintained, took shelter in the house of Mohd latief, son of Gulla and opened fire on the Joint operations party of police and army when challenged. He said that the troops maintained cordon throughout the night and eliminated four militants.
The house of Mohd Latief was also gutted during the fire fight and the owner was also killed.
SSP Rajouri said that Sangar Pathan of HMPPR was a dreaded ultra and was carrying his activities in Kot Charwal, Bai Nambal upto Gool area. He however, said that, the local people who move in the area identified two other slain ultras as Abu Hamza and Abu Shiraka. Both of them slit the threats of atleast half-a-dozen person including three members of family in Darhal and a father-son at Budhal. He claimed that the locals have heaved sigh of relief after they killings.
Defence authorities claimed that Major General SN Pavri, GOC CIF (Uniform) took aerial survey of the operation which was in progress when reports last came in.
In another operation at Mambal area of Krishna Ghatt in Mendhar area of Poonch, security forces managed to eliminate two more ultras. Identity of the slain ultras was yet to be ascertained as the operation was in progress in the area.
Two AK rifles, four AK magaziens and nine rounds of AK were recovered from the possession of slain ultras.
In yet another incident, a girl Abhi was injured in a grenade blast at Azad Mohalla of Poonch last evening. The militants hurled grenade inside the house of a contractor Amar Nath fled away. The contractor's daughter Abu sustained minor injuries and was hospitalised, police said, adding that the condition of the girl was stable.
A search operation has been launched and security been befed up in the town.
Meanwhile, security forces, during a search operation made recoveries of arms and ammunition at Saladar (Rajouri) today which included 150 rounds AK ammunition, one RPG, four RPG Bombs, one pistol 30 mm, one pistol magazine, seven rounds pistol ammunition, one radio set, two hand grenades and two UBGL grenades.
