2 US Soldiers, 10 Iraqis Killed in Separate Attacks By VOA News
24 February 2005
Two American soldiers and 10 Iraqis were killed in separate insurgent attacks in northern Iraq Thursday.
The U.S. military says the soldiers were killed in bomb blasts in the towns of Qaryat and near Samara.
In Tikrit, also to the north, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive laden vehicle at a police station, killing 10 people and wounding 22 others.
On political front, interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said Wednesday he was forming a broad political coalition in an attempt to keep his post.
The country's main Shi'ite alliance, which won the largest share of votes in last month's election, has chosen Ibrahim al-Jaafari as its candidate for prime minister.
To be prime minister, a candidate needs two-thirds backing in the 275-seat transitional National Assembly.
